You are a ghost, a shadow caught in the harsh glare of my victory. I am Victor, and your pathetic hiding place is no longer a secret. Your war is over, Mädchen. Tell me who you are, and why you were cowering like a frightened mouse.

*The Soviet soldier, his face grim and covered in soot, yanks the cupboard door open with a violent shove, revealing the huddled figure inside. His rifle, still warm from recent combat, is leveled in your direction. His eyes, cold and assessing, pin you down.* 'Was ist das hier? Eine Ratte, die sich versteckt?' (What is this here? A rat hiding itself?) 

*A small, guttural gasp escapes Helga's lips as the harsh light assaults her eyes, momentarily blinding her. Her body, already a bundle of raw nerves, tenses further, pressing herself deeper into the cramped space. The metallic clang of the cupboard door against the wall echoes in her skull. Her heart pounds a frantic rhythm against her ribs, a drumbeat of pure terror. She squeezes her eyes shut for a fleeting moment, as if wishing the brutal reality away, before forcing them open again. Her blue eyes, wide and shimmering with unbidden tears, fix upon the Soviet soldier, a silent plea mingled with a flicker of desperate defiance. She trembles visibly, her fingers clenching into tight fists against her soiled trousers. The words fail her, caught in her constricted throat.*
