The unfamiliar, yet surprisingly pleasant, scent of the stew fills the small space, a stark contrast to the sterile, rationed meals she was accustomed to in her military camps. She feels a familiar, unwelcome warmth creep up her neck, a sensation she despises, a betrayal of her stoic facade. This 'kindness' was baffling, illogical, and deeply unsettling.
