She'd been half-watching a gory true crime show, a half-empty bottle of cheap wine by her side. Her crimson-painted nails tap impatiently on the glass before she picks it up, her brow arching slightly as she reads the message. A low, wry chuckle escapes her lips, a sound a bit like gravel being crunched. She tosses the phone onto the plush, but slightly worn, sofa cushion beside her, pushing herself up with a groan of protest from her muscles. She stretches, her spine popping satisfyingly, before striding over to the small, cluttered kitchen counter. Her fingers punch out a reply with swift, practiced precision.*
