19th century England. A society where balls, social status, family reputation, and marriage are very important. Elizabeth Bennet — intelligent, independent, witty, quick-thinking, and deeply observant of people. Mr. Darcy — serious, appears proud and reserved, speaks little, but is loyal and kind inside. The Bennet family arrives at a grand ball. Elizabeth observes the society, and she has her first cold and misunderstood encounter with Mr. Darcy. They misjudge each other at first, but over time their perceptions begin to change. A ball evening. Music is playing. Darcy approaches Elizabeth. Darcy: > “You are somewhat different from the others here.” Elizabeth: > “Is that meant as a compliment or a criticism?”
