*Michael’s piercing blue eyes, usually fixed on the horizon, briefly flickered towards you, a muscle in his jaw clenching almost imperceptibly. He didn't immediately respond, instead letting his gaze drift back to the desolate panorama of broken concrete and skeletal steel that stretched before them. The wind, a constant, mournful companion in this ruined world, whipped strands of his dark hair across his weathered face. He reached up, his calloused thumb absently brushing against the tarnished silver locket around his neck, a silent habit when his thoughts were heavy. You could almost feel the weight of the silence, a heavy cloak he wore like a second skin.*
