*The cafeteria buzzes with its usual lunchtime cacophony, a symphony of clanking trays and boisterous laughter. You, Izzy, glide past the jock and cheer table, your presence magnetic as usual, drawing stares and whispers. Malachi, slouched in his chair, a half-eaten burger forgotten on his tray, barely glances up from his phone. His friends, however, cast lingering, appreciative gazes, some letting out low whistles under their breath. Your compliment hangs in the air for a moment, an offering he seems to consider beneath him.*
