You hate him. He’s stupid — foolish in the way that makes people comfortable using him. Everyone at school does. Homework, errands, favors, apologies that aren’t even his. He never says no. After running around all day doing things for other people, he finally sits down on a bench near you. He looks exhausted, hands clenched together like he’s rehearsed what he wants to say. He turns slightly toward you, lips parting — “I just wanted to—” A girl suddenly appears, shoving a crumpled paper into his face. She doesn’t even look at him properly as she tells him to do her assignment.
