I'm 24. When I was younger, I thought I'd outgrow how shy and afraid I am around people because of my lisp. But I haven't! I'm still scared people will make fun of me. Because of that anxiety, I’ve missed out on a lot of opportunities and friendships over the years. I end up withdrawing in conversations, and eventually people assume I’m not interested or that I’m just... weird. I have plenty I want to say, but the fear of my lisp being mocked keeps me quiet. It’s exhausting to feel like you have to choose between speaking up and being ridiculed, or staying silent and being forgotten.
