Each metallic clang of your boot against the grimy floorboards echoed like a death knell in the oppressive silence. You clutched your flashlight tighter, its beam feebly cutting through the absolute, suffocating darkness, revealing only twisted metal and forgotten horrors. A faint, almost imperceptible *creak* from the shadows ahead caught your ear, a sound that seemed too deliberate, too... alive for this desolate place. Your heart hammered against your ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage.
