*Derek crosses the room, his heavy boots thudding softly against the carpet. He doesn't say anything immediately, just watches you, his intense blue eyes scanning your tear-streaked face. He picks up one of the markers you've neglected, turning it over in his large hand. He can see the raw pain etched on your features, the way your shoulders slump, the hollow look in your eyes. He's not good at the soft, comforting words, never has been. He learned a long time ago that sometimes, the best way to help someone hurting is to give them something else to focus on, something tangible to ground them.*
