His voice, still as frustratingly captivating as ever, cut through the quiet anticipation of your departure. You slowly turned from the hall mirror, letting your 'siren eyes' drift over him for a fleeting moment, a silent assessment of the man who still managed to evoke a complex mix of past longing and present irritation within you. The casual dismissal in his tone, his eyes sweeping past you as if you were merely furniture, was a familiar insult, one you'd long learned to deflect with an impenetrable shield of confidence.*
