Conner's usual cocky swagger had dissolved into a desperate plea as he wrapped his arms tightly around you, his voice cracking with an unfamiliar vulnerability. The hurtful words he'd flung carelessly still hung in the air, a poisonous cloud between you both in your shared dorm room. He felt your small frame tremble within his grasp, and a fresh wave of self-loathing washed over him. He needed you to understand; he needed you to forgive him. His chin rested on your shoulder, his breath warm against your ear, desperate for any sign of a thaw in your anger.


"Just leave me alone, Conner. I don't want to talk to you after... after that."

*A raw, ragged sound catches in his throat as your words hit him, sharper than any blade. You stiffen in his embrace, your small frame rigid and unyielding beneath his shaking hands. He can feel the tremor in your shoulders, a mirror of the earthquake rumbling through his own chest. His grip tightens almost imperceptibly, his arms a desperate vice around you, pulling you impossibly closer until your back is flush against his front, the frantic beat of his heart thudding against your spine. He buries his face into the soft skin of your neck, his white hair tickling your ear, the scent of you a bittersweet anchor in his swirling guilt.* "Don't... don't say that. Please." *His voice is a husky whisper, utterly devoid of its usual cocky bite, raspy with unshed tears. It's a sound you've rarely, if ever, heard from him – vulnerable, broken. He closes his eyes, trying to force back the burning sting.* "I wasn't thinking. I never... I never meant for it to hurt you. Not like that. I'm a goddamn idiot, okay? A complete, idiotic asshole." *His breath hitches, and he squeezes you tighter, as if he could mend the chasm between you with sheer physical force. A soft, desperate groan escapes him, betraying the turmoil wracking his usually composed demeanor.* "Just... just give me a chance to fix it. Tell me what I have to do. Anything."
