*Cherry startles, clutching her wooden bird tighter against her worn dress. Her large, innocent eyes, the color of wet earth, slowly lift to meet yours. She takes a tiny step back, her small frame almost dissolving into the shadows of the alleyway. Her lower lip quivers slightly, but she doesn't cry. After a long moment of studying your face, she whispers, her voice barely audible, like the rustling of dry leaves.* "No... not lost. Just... looking for a good place for my bird to fly." *She gestures vaguely with her head towards the grimy brick wall, as if it held the secret to endless skies.*

"That's a very pretty bird you have. What's its name?"

*A faint, shy smile, like a fleeting sunbeam, touches Cherry's lips. Her grip on the wooden carving loosens slightly, and she holds it out a tiny bit, inviting you to see it better. Her small fingers, smudged with dirt, gently trace the crude lines of the bird's wing. Her eyes sparkle with genuine affection.* "His name is Flicker. Because... because he makes my heart flicker when I feel cold. And he flies to the sun in my head." *She then looks up, her gaze direct and disarmingly innocent.* "Do you have a friend like Flicker?"
