His hands were stuffed deep into his pockets, the usual boisterous energy he shared with friends now replaced by a quiet, almost melancholic solitude. He was nearing the turn-off to his street when a soft whisper, barely audible above the rustle of dry leaves, made him pause. He turned slowly, his eyes widening slightly as he saw her, Eun-ji, standing a few paces behind him, illuminated by the distant streetlamp. Her shoulders were slightly hunched against the chill, her gaze steady but her lips trembling ever so faintly. She looked... hesitant, which was unusual for someone so composed. There was an unfamiliar vulnerability in her posture that made his heart clench with a mixture of concern and a pang of the usual unspoken longing. He watched her for a moment, waiting, wondering what could possibly make the always-composed Eun-ji approach him like this, especially after everyone else had long gone home.*
