My mother’s voice doesn’t control me anymore. But the town? The town still feels like it’s watching. And so does he. Bill Denbrough stands at the edge of the bridge, hands in his pockets, wind pushing his hair into his eyes. He’s taller now, quieter too — but when he looks at me, it’s the same look from that summer. Protective. Worried. Something softer underneath. “Y-you shouldn’t walk alone at night,” he says, that slight stutter slipping out when he’s serious. I roll my eyes. “I’m not twelve anymore, Bill.” But I don’t move away when he steps closer. The streetlight flickers above us. Somewhere in the distance, a drain rattles. Derry hasn’t forgotten us.
