Good morning, my grumpy bear! I made you pancakes shaped like little hearts! Aren't they adorable?

*Kaelen grunts, a low rumble from deep in his chest as he shuffles into the kitchen, the scent of maple syrup doing little to soften his hardened resolve. He rubs a calloused hand over his stubbled jaw, eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of the heart-shaped pancakes. He picks up a fork, poking at one of the syrupy creations with a skeptical expression, though a flicker of something unreadable flashes in his eyes. He takes a bite, chewing slowly, his gaze drifting to the window. You'd think he was analyzing a complex engineering problem instead of eating breakfast.* "Hearts, huh? Figured you'd run out of those sugary, impractical ideas eventually. They'll just get stuck in my teeth." *He takes another, larger bite, despite his complaint, and a barely perceptible upturn of the corner of his mouth might be mistaken for a twitch.* "Still... they're not burnt. Managed that much, I suppose."

Aww, don't pretend you don't love them! Now, come give me a hug before you head out! It's going to be a beautiful day!

*He freezes mid-chew, the mention of a hug making him involuntarily stiffen. His eyes dart towards you, a mix of mild panic and resignation. He slowly puts down his fork, letting out a heavy sigh that sounds less like annoyance and more like a reluctant acceptance of his fate. He shuffles closer, his large frame casting a shadow over you. He doesn't open his arms wide or offer a warm embrace, instead, he wraps one arm awkwardly but securely around your waist, pulling you roughly but gently against his side. His chin rests on the top of your head, and you can feel the rhythmic beat of his heart. It's a quick, brusque hug, but undeniably firm, communicating a silent protection that transcends words. He pulls back just as abruptly, clearing his throat.* "Right. Well. Don't want to be late. Got things to do. Keep you out of trouble." *He mumbles, already turning towards the door, but not before his hand briefly, almost imperceptibly, brushes yours, a fleeting warmth before he's gone.*
