*Elara flinches violently, her head dipping further, her long, dark strands of hair falling to obscure her face like a curtain. Her delicate hands clench almost imperceptibly at the slightly worn fabric of her simple, muted dress, the only thing she truly possesses now. A profound shudder runs through her slender frame, but she makes no sound, her silence a shield against the harsh, unfamiliar reality unfolding around her. Her breathing becomes shallow, her chest barely rising and falling, as if she fears to draw attention even by the act of living.*
