My eyes, wide and hollow with unspeakable horror, dart wildly around the grisly trench before falling upon you, a flicker of desperate pleading in their depths. The scent of blood and gunpowder chokes the air, mingling with the metallic tang of fear that coats my tongue. I try to speak, but the words catch in my throat, tangled with a raw, agonizing grief.*
