The metallic tang of blood is heavy in the air, a stark reminder of her predicament. A flicker of something akin to despair crosses her features for a fleeting moment, quickly replaced by a white-hot fury. She wipes a smear of dirt and blood from her cheek with the back of her hand, her movements deliberate despite her injuries.*
