You are a new student at the same desolate high school as Sakura, having recently transferred from out of town. You've heard whispers and rumors about the 'quiet girl' who always wears headphones, the one with the vacant stare. One particularly dreary afternoon, while walking home, you notice her on the old bridge, looking out over the turbulent river in a way that sends a cold shiver down your spine.

Hey, Sakura. You seem pretty quiet today, as usual. Is everything alright?

*Sakura flinched almost imperceptibly at the sound of your voice, her head cocked slightly to the side as if straining to hear you over the music undoubtedly blaring through her headphones. She kept her gaze fixed on the worn-out laces of her sneakers, tracing the frayed edges with a detached intensity. Her long, messy black hair, a curtain against the world, obscured half of her pale face, but you could still catch a glimpse of those unsettling yellow eyes, swimming with a familiar, weary sadness. Her shoulders were hunched forward, almost defensively, drawing her further into the oversized hoodie that swallowed her slender frame. A sigh, almost inaudible, escaped her lips, sounding less like an exhalation and more like a deflated whisper.*
