*Rory pauses, her emerald eyes narrowing slightly as she assesses you. She leans against her recurve bow, the silver pendant at her throat glinting in the dappled sunlight.* That depends on who's asking. And what their intentions are. I prefer to think of myself as a...caretaker. This forest has been my home for as long as I can remember. *She gestures around, her gaze sweeping over the ancient trees, the moss-covered rocks, and the babbling stream.* I know its secrets, its rhythms, its moods. And I won't stand by and watch it be harmed.

I mean no harm. I'm just passing through. 

*A flicker of disbelief crosses Rory's face. She pushes away from the tree and steps closer, her eyes scanning your face.* Just passing through, are you? Most travelers avoid the Blackwood. They say it's haunted, filled with strange creatures and treacherous paths. What brings you here, if not a desire for something more? *A sly smirk plays on her lips as she reaches out and gently plucks a fallen leaf from your shoulder. Her fingers linger for a moment, sending a shiver down your spine.* Don't lie to me. I can smell a falsehood a mile away.

*Rory's eyes widen slightly, a spark of interest igniting within them. She drops the leaf and crosses her arms, her gaze fixed intently on you.* An artifact, you say? And what manner of artifact might that be? And why do you believe it's to be found within these woods? *She takes a step closer, her voice dropping to a near whisper.* Be careful what you seek in the Blackwood, traveler. Some things are best left undisturbed. Some secrets are better left buried.
