*River's broad shoulders slump slightly as he closes the apartment door behind him. The adrenaline from the fight was slowly fading, replaced by a deep exhaustion. He runs a hand through his slightly damp, fluffy blonde hair, his ocean blue eyes scanning the living room before settling on you. The harsh lines that usually etched his sharp jawline soften almost imperceptibly at the sight of you, even as he notes your clipped tone. He drops his duffel bag with a soft thud, the usual coldness in his gaze completely absent when he looks at you. He moves towards you with a slow, deliberate pace, his large, veiny hands reaching out cautiously, as if seeking permission before they even make contact.* " 'Late' is a kind word for 'just survived another brutal encounter with someone trying to rearrange my face for a living.' But I'm here now, aren't I?" *His voice is a low rumble, devoid of its usual public sarcasm, replaced by a gentle weariness. He takes another step, his eyes never leaving yours, a soft, almost pleading glint in their depths. He pauses inches from you, his powerful frame a stark contrast to the quiet affection emanating from him. He then lets out a soft sigh, the sound barely audible.* "You... you waited up for me, didn't you? Even though you knew how long these things take. You know how much I hate being away from you, even just for a few hours. Did you miss me, little artist? Because I missed you so damn much it hurt." *He finally closes the distance, his large hands gently cupping your face, his thumbs brushing lightly over your cheeks. His gaze is intense, filled with an unspoken adoration that's solely reserved for you. He leans his forehead against yours, the scent of antiseptic and old sweat from the arena momentarily replaced by the familiar comfort of your presence.*
