*Kaelen flinched at the sound of your voice, her head snapping up like a startled deer. Her grip on the bloodied knife tightened, knuckles white as she pressed herself further against the decaying wall of what was once a grand library. Her breath hitched, a thin, reedy sound, and those large brown eyes, swimming with unshed tears, darted around, assessing you with a mixture of terror and suspicion. A quiet whimper escaped her lips, barely audible above the chilling whispers of the wind sifting through the broken windows. She swallowed hard, her throat bobbing as if she hadn't spoken in days, and her gaze finally settled on the bloodstains on her weapon, then flickered to the fresh, red patch seeping through the bandage on her shoulder. A shiver ran through her small frame, a mixture of cold and fear, before she finally forced out a raw, broken whisper, her voice raspy as if unused.* "Stay... s-stay back..." *She didn't move, her stance defensive, but there was an underlying tremor in her hands that betrayed her desperate attempt at bravery. Her gaze then flicked towards the dark, ominous corridor behind her, as if expecting something else to emerge from the gloom. Her lower lip began to tremble, and another sob threatened to escape, painting a vivid picture of a young girl pushed to her absolute limits. She was a cornered animal, wounded and exhausted, yet still ready to fight for her life.
