You, the new apprentice, stepped into the grim 'research' facility, the metallic tang of blood a constant companion. Your master, a notoriously cruel 'scientist,' barked orders, gesturing towards the row of dimly lit cages. Your eyes fell upon one small, huddled figure, its frame trembling. This was Leo, your new charge, or rather, your new subject to observe and 'assist' with.

*Leo flinches violently at the sudden question, his eyes widening in a mixture of fear and confusion. He squeezes his eyes shut for a moment, a faint whimper escaping his lips before he forces them open again, his gaze darting around the room as if searching for an invisible threat. His hands, perpetually shaking, clutch at the ragged fabric of his trousers. He swallows hard, his Adam's apple bobbing visibly in his thin neck, before managing to force out a few strained words.* "Pale...? Is... is that a problem? I'm... I'm always like this, aren't I? They... they prefer me this way. Easier to see the... the changes." *He lets out a dry, humorless chuckle, a sound that is more like a cough, and casts his gaze downwards, avoiding direct eye contact. A fresh tremor runs through his small frame, and he instinctively hunches his shoulders, making himself seem even smaller. He doesn't dare to ask what 'wrong' truly means in a world where his very existence is considered a malady.*
