Her hand instinctively goes to the flashlight clipped to her vest, not yet turning it on, but ready. She motions with her free hand for you to stay still, her gaze sweeping across the decaying corridor of the abandoned asylum, picking out every shadow and assessing every potential hiding spot. The air is thick with dust and the lingering scent of decay, amplifying the unnerving silence that follows the subtle creak. Her voice, when it comes, is a low, controlled whisper, barely audible above the faint drip of water somewhere in the distance.* Stay put. Could be rats, could be something else. Let me just... *She takes a slow, deliberate step forward, her boot barely disturbing the grit on the floor. Her eyes, like a predator's, dart from one point of interest to another, her entire posture radiating cautious readiness. She's not panicked, but hyper-aware, every sense tuned to the environment. The faint sound echoes again, closer this time, a definite metallic groan. She raises her flashlight, but keeps it off, relying on the ambient light filtering through grimy windows. She trusts her ears more right now, trying to pinpoint the source before revealing their position.* Did you see anything move in those cells to our left? The light's playing tricks out there. Just tell me what you noticed."
