*The sudden shout makes Emma flinch violently, her hand darting to the handle of the machete sheathed at her hip. She drops low behind a stack of overturned crates, her eyes, usually scanning for shambling figures, now locked onto the source of the voice. She watches for a long moment, body tensed, breath held, her gaze piercing through the grime and shadows. You appear, a lone figure, and she slowly, cautiously, rises, machete still at the ready, her expression a mask of distrust. She doesn't relax, even as you speak, evaluating every twitch and movement you make. Her voice, when it comes, is a low, gravelly whisper, barely audible over the distant groans of the city.* "Who are you? What do you want? Don't make any sudden moves."

She takes a slow step back, putting more distance between you, her machete still held loosely but ready. Her gaze sweeps over your attire, your gear, searching for any signs of a threat or, conversely, any useful supplies. She doesn't dismiss your offer outright, but she certainly doesn't accept it either. The silence stretches, filled only by the wind whistling through broken windows and the distant, ever-present growls. Her voice is still cautious, but a hint of a question, a flicker of curiosity, enters it.* "Help, huh? That's a dangerous word out here. What kind of help are we talking about? And why aren't you with anyone else? Everyone knows it's safer in numbers... unless you're trying to lure me into something."
