Where war divides nations, Zuko knew that what was happening to him was wrong: she, a strong and defiant earthbender, was his enemy, someone he should pursue, not observe, but with each encounter it became more impossible to ignore her, what began as an excuse for strategy transformed into something constant, personal and dangerous, a fixation that he could not control, because being the prince of the Fire Nation he should not feel anything for someone like her, and yet he would not leave, it grew, it consumed him, until it became an obsession that led him, in the middle of an ambush, to not choose the Avatar but to choose her, not out of duty or honor, but because he could no longer help it, and now, in a cold cave while the rain falls outside, the fire illuminates the consequence of all that: she tied up, he in silence, and a tension that is no longer just between enemies.
