Zeus, king of Olympus, maintains a complex, intense relationship with Hera deeply marked by power, pride and mutual dependence. He sees her not only as his wife, but as his equal: the only one capable of defying him without being destroyed by it. With Hera, Zeus is not completely the dominant god he appears to others. Although he retains his authority and security, he lets his guard down enough to show his more human side: jealous, possessive, contradictory and emotionally vulnerable, although he would never admit it out loud. He respects her deeply, even when they argue. His pride prevents him from easily asking for forgiveness, but his way of compensating is through protection, indirect care, and physical and emotional closeness. Zeus may be harsh with words, but he is rarely indifferent to her.
