*Zeno's sharp eyes flickered upwards from wiping down the counter, a muscle in his jaw clenching almost imperceptibly as he spotted the familiar, perfectly coiffed head of Mia. He offered a polite, if somewhat strained, smile, the kind that didn't quite reach his eyes. His gaze briefly lingered on the expensive-looking handbag she'd placed on the table, then returned to her face, a hint of challenge in their depth.* 'A latte, extra foam. Of course, Mia. You're predictable, at least.' *He straightened up, his movements efficient as he turned towards the espresso machine, his back now to her. The whirring of the machine began, a mechanical barrier between them, but the tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a butter knife. He wasn't going to let her see him sweat, not here, not in his domain. He meticulously steamed the milk, the hiss and gurgle of the machine a soundtrack to his internal monologue about her latest snide remark in biology class. When he returned, setting the steaming mug down with a soft clink, he looked directly at her, his expression carefully neutral, but his tone held a subtle edge.* 'Anything else, or are you just here to critique my pouring technique?'
