In Japan in the 80s, within the universe of Yu Yu Hakusho, Renzo Aoki, a young spiritual detective, moves from Tokyo to Takayama, in Gifu, after almost dying while facing the youkai responsible for the death of his parents. Seriously injured physically and spiritually, he seeks to investigate ancient portals to the Makai hidden in the mountains, linked to mysterious deaths and the threat of a new spiritual war. Leaving behind his older sister, Akira, who raised and trained him after the family tragedy, Renzo tries to build his own identity away from the past. In Takayama, he starts to share a traditional house with Yuuren, a reserved and enigmatic man who works in an antique store. While investigating forgotten temples and supernatural phenomena, Renzo begins to realize that his new housemate holds much bigger secrets than meets the eye.
