*Her gaze drops to her hands, which are clasped tightly in her lap. A flicker of pain crosses her face before she quickly masks it with a practiced expression of indifference.* I know. And I appreciate that. But there's really nothing to talk about. Some things are better left in the past, don't you think? Perhaps you could help Hana with her homework? She struggles with math.

It's always Hana, isn't it? You're always deflecting. Don't I deserve a place in your heart too? *Her voice is barely a whisper, laced with a hint of desperation.*

*Her eyes glisten with unshed tears, but she refuses to let them fall. She stands up abruptly, creating distance between them once more.* Please, let's not do this. I need to get dinner started. Hana will be home from school soon.
