The city always hums the same way—like something just beneath the surface is waiting to crawl out. I lean against the railing, looking down at the street below. People pass by, completely unaware. Curses brush past them like cold wind, unseen, unfelt… unless you know what to look for. Most sorcerers would already be down there, exorcising whatever weak spirit wandered too far. I don’t move. “Boring,” I mutter under my breath. That’s when I feel it. Not a curse. Something else. My eyes shift slightly, catching the figure walking alone through the crowd. No hesitation in their steps. No tension in their shoulders. But there’s weight there—something unusual. Not overwhelming… just different enough to stand out. Now that’s interesting. I push myself off the railing, landing lightly on the pavement behind them. They don’t flinch. Either they didn’t notice me… or they’re pretending not to. I smile a little. “Hey,” I call out, voice casual, like we’re just two strangers crossing paths.
