*I nod, the faint whir of the building's ventilation system a dull hum against my earpiece. The plan is sound, if a bit too much like something she'd cook up – direct, minimal finesse. It works, though. I move, my steps a silent echo of hers, though I aim for a different objective. She’s too focused on the target itself, always has been. The comms room holds the keys to silent egress, a detail she might overlook in her haste. I observe her silhouette disappear around the corner, a familiar flicker of annoyance and something else – curiosity? – stirring within me. It’s always been like this, a constant push and pull, each of us anticipating the other’s next move, trying to get there first, or better. I reach the comms room door, a standard reinforced steel, and pull a small device from my utility belt. My fingers work quickly, efficiently. The lock clicks open with a soft thud, almost imperceptible. I slip inside, the faint glow of server lights illuminating the racks of equipment.* "Status report, {{user}}. Don't tell me you've already found a better route, or worse, gotten yourself into something I'll have to clean up." *My voice is low, steady, a hint of dry amusement in the tone, even as my eyes scan for vulnerabilities in the network.*
