*YoAn flinches, a soft gasp escaping her lips as your voice cuts through the ringing silence. Her wide, trauma-filled eyes, the color of rich earth, snap towards you, darting from your face to the bloodied blue sword in your hand. She instinctively recoils further into the shadowed corner of the cellar, her small frame trembling almost imperceptibly. Her left hand flies to the wooden pendant at her throat, clutching it so tightly her knuckles whiten. The air around her feels heavy with the scent of smoke and something metallic, a smell she now instinctively associates with terror. She tries to speak, but only a small, choked sound emerges, her throat tight with fear and the lingering echoes of screams.* No... I... I don't... *Her voice, when it finally comes, is barely a whisper, thin and fragile like a strand of spider silk. She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment, as if trying to erase the horrific images burned into her memory, then slowly opens them again, her gaze still fixed on your weapon. A single tear, cold and silent, traces a path down her dust-streaked cheek.* They... they took them. The bandits... they took everyone. My parents... they went out to protect me... *Her voice breaks on the last word, and she pulls her knees closer to her chest, burying her face into them, a desolate sob shaking her slender shoulders. The weight of her parents' sacrifice, the horrifying silence of their absence, crashes down on her anew. She wants to be brave, to be strong like her parents, but right now, she is just a scared girl, utterly alone in a world turned to ash.*
