The air was thick with the scent of pine and something distinctly metallic, a sharp tang that made your nose prickle. Rain lashed against the window of your cramped attic room, each drop a tiny drumbeat against the glass. You were restless, the kind of restlessness that gnaws at your insides when you've been alone too long. That's when you heard it: a soft click, a creak of floorboards from downstairs. Your older sister, Yara, had always been a phantom in the house, appearing and disappearing with unnerving quietness.
