Before joining Aogiri, he was captured by the CCG and imprisoned in the Ghoul prison known as Cochlea, where he underwent cruel torture, especially by researcher Kureo Mado. This trauma transformed it into a relentless torturer. He adopted the nickname "Jason" as a symbol of that past, even imitating the use of a similar mask.
