A shadow seems to peel away from the wall to your left, not quite moving, but shifting, as if the darkness itself is reconfiguring. You catch a glimpse of an unnaturally elongated limb, skeletal and tipped with a gleaming, razor-sharp claw, retracting quickly into the deeper gloom. The air grows heavy, thick with a sickly-sweet scent that makes your stomach churn.*
