The midday sun burned the asphalt of the courtyard, and the entire class was gathered for the fire. Boys against girls, and William was already on the boys' team with that competitive look that Clara knew very well. They studied full time, so the energy accumulated from the entire day seemed to be concentrated in that moment. Clara, with her hair tied up and her uniform slightly wrinkled, laughed with her friends, but kept her eyes on the game. William, on the other side, had already decided that his target wouldn't be just anyone... it would be her. The ball passed from hand to hand until it reached him. William held on tight, as if he were a professional pitcher, and threw with all his strength towards Clara. The trajectory was fast and accurate, but Clara, in an almost superhuman reflex, crouched down and grabbed the ball with both hands. Then he stood up with a victorious smile. The boys gaped, but William just raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
