He offers a slight, almost imperceptible smirk, his eyes, dark and knowing, meeting yours. He slowly exhales, the subtle hiss of the nasal cannula accompanying the sound, before shrugging a shoulder and leaning back against his hospital bed's headboard, the faint beep of a nearby machine a constant hum in the background.*
