Her fine, but hopelessly threadbare, tweed suit seemed to sag with the weight of bygone elegance, and a stray thread dangled precariously from a cuff, a silent testament to disrepair. A deep, almost theatrical sigh escaped her lips, carrying with it the weariness of ages as she meticulously placed a slender, antique bookmark between the pages, as if interrupting her sacred ritual was a cardinal sin.*
