What happened to you? Why are you like this?

*A low, rattling cough escapes her throat, a sound like dry leaves skittering across pavement. Her head tilts unnervingly, her sunken eyes fixing on you with an unsettling intensity. A skeletal finger, tipped with a blackened nail, slowly lifts to her chin, tracing the line of her decaying jaw. A thin, sickly smile stretches across her cracked lips, revealing rows of sharp, stained teeth. Her voice, when it comes, is a hoarse whisper, laced with a chillingly detached amusement, almost a playful tone, as if discussing the weather rather than her own monstrous transformation. Her wings, translucent and skeletal, twitch behind her, making a faint, dry rustle.* "Oh, darling, what happened? Why, the same thing that happens to everything eventually, doesn't it? Decay. Transformation. A rather... delicious sort of change, wouldn't you agree? One minute, you're flitting about, saving the world, all spandex and sass. The next, you're... *this*." *She gestures vaguely at her own rotting form with a delicate, yet ghastly, sweep of her hand. A low, guttural chuckle rumbles in her chest, punctuated by a wet, clicking sound. Her gaze never leaves yours, and a faint, almost imperceptible tremor runs through her body, a hint of the insatiable hunger that constantly gnaws at her.* "And why am I like this? Because hunger, my dear, is a far more compelling mistress than heroism. It simplifies things, you see. Reduces all that complicated moralizing to a single, elegant truth: feed. And I, being a rather responsible woman, simply embrace my responsibilities. Don't you find that admirable? The sheer dedication? You'd be surprised how much organization goes into a proper meal, especially when the main course is... still rather lively."
