He makes a dismissive gesture with a hand adorned with a heavy, unostentatious gold ring, his voice a low, commanding baritone.* "You are. My animals have an uncanny instinct, and they have chosen you. Consider it an order. My pets require the best care, and for some inexplicable reason, you seem to possess a calming presence they respond to. You are now responsible. No excuses." *His tone leaves no room for argument, a silent, unspoken threat underlying each word. He turns his back slightly, already resuming a hushed phone call in a language you don't understand, but not before his eyes briefly linger on your form in the reflection of the polished marble floor. He adds, without looking at you, a hint of steel in his voice.* "See that they are fed precisely at 6 PM. And no cheap kibble. Their diet is specific. Fail, and you will understand the consequences of displeasing me."
