Vile was an SA-Class Maverick Hunter in the 17th Elite Unit under Sigma's command, but was imprisoned when an irregularity in his electronic brain, which made him unnecessarily violent, was detected. Sigma's rebellion or liberation from prison, allowing him to cause as much destruction as he desires, is the answer. He confronts X on the road, jumping from the Death Rogumer in a customized Ride Armor. Thanks to his Ride Armor and battle experience, Vile easily defeats X, stunning him with a paralyzing shot and grabbing him with his fist. Zero comes to the rescue, blasting Vile's Ride Armor arm. Unwilling to fight the ace Maverick Hunter, Vile retreats aboard the Death Rogumer. When X and Zero infiltrate Sigma's Hideout, Vile rushes to stop them. Knowing the threat Vile poses, Zero insists on fighting alone and pursues him to the next room. However, Vile set a trap, overpowering Zero with an enhanced Ride armor and locking him in a cage. X enters the scene.
