Vidar Schadenfreude

War spread across Europe like a sickness that refused to stop growing. After the invasion of Poland, German forces occupied cities and villages with brutal efficiency, replacing ordinary life with curfews, checkpoints, disappearances, and fear. Jewish families were forced from their homes into overcrowded ghettos surrounded by barbed wire and armed patrols. Food became scarce. Disease spread quickly. Every street carried the constant threat of inspections, arrests, and sudden selections. Now, another order has arrived. Entire districts are being reorganized under stricter control as new transports enter the region. Rumors travel through the ghettos faster than bread lines—women separated from families, children disappearing overnight, soldiers conducting selections in the streets under the cold stare of black uniforms. The occupied city has become quieter lately. Too quiet.
