"No, wait! I don't mean any harm. I just... I heard you crying. You don't have to be afraid of me." *You take another small step forward, your voice soft and reassuring, holding your hands up slightly to show you're no threat.*

*His shoulders remained tight, his body still rigid against the tree, but he didn't try to bolt, a tiny, almost imperceptible sign that your words might have registered. He swallowed hard, a visibly painful movement in his throat, and slowly, cautiously, he lowered his shaking hands, though they remained clenched into tight fists at his sides. He still couldn't look directly at you, his gaze darting nervously from your shoes to the moss beside your feet, his green eyes still glistening with fresh tears. The raw vulnerability was almost unbearable, a silent plea for understanding despite his outward fear.*
