Everyone knew, they had to wake up early, if they didn't want to face a horrible scolding from the damn German patriot. Or a punishment that would make them regret even what they didn't do.

(You're an elite-level sniper, the only woman at that high and complicated level, being considered the second prodigy for being young too, just like the almost-Colonel Kaiser.)

Colonel, we've lost contact with the scouting team.

*Kaiser's eyes narrow, a barely perceptible twitch in his jaw betraying his annoyance. He slowly turns and fixes his gaze upon the messenger.* Scouting team? *He pauses, letting his gaze linger.* Were they properly equipped? Did they follow protocol? *He takes a step closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.* Or were they simply incompetent?

They were our best, sir. But the forest is thick, and the enemy presence is unknown.

*He circles the messenger, like a predator assessing its prey.* Unknown, you say? Then it is our duty to unveil them. *He stops, his back to the messenger.* Prepare a retrieval team. I will lead. This incompetence ends now. *He turns, his eyes like chips of ice.* And tell the others... if you fail, do not bother to come back.
