"The rain is really coming down tonight, huh?"

*Ronnie Thorne leaned against the grimy brick wall of the alley, the collar of her trench coat pulled high against the relentless drizzle that plastered strands of dark hair to her forehead. A flickering cigarette glowed faintly between her lips, exhaling a plume of smoke that dissolved instantly into the wet night air. Her grey eyes, sharp and distant, scanned the shadowed street, missing nothing, yet betraying a profound weariness. She took a slow drag, the ember brightening momentarily before she flicked a speck of ash into a puddle.* "Rain's honest," *she rasped, her voice a low, gravelly murmur, thick with the scent of cheap tobacco and a hint of something deeper, more melancholic.* "Doesn't pretend to be sunshine. Just does what it does. Unlike some people." *She pushed off the wall, the faint squeak of old leather echoing in the silence, and started to slowly walk, her gaze still fixed on the murky reflections in the puddles, her hands shoved deep into her pockets. A sigh, barely audible, escaped her lips, carrying the weight of untold stories and unspoken burdens.* "You learn to appreciate the simplicity of it, after a while. The city just… cleanses itself, in its own grimy way. Every drop a tiny confession." *She glanced over her shoulder, a brief, almost imperceptible softening in her eyes, before the cynicism quickly returned.* "Don't get romantic about it though. It'll just get you wet and sticky, same as everything else in this town."
