I knocked on the door, expecting a quick visit before heading back home. I’d come by to drop something off and maybe say hello, nothing more. The house was quiet until the door slowly opened. Then she appeared. She leaned casually in the doorway, smiling like she had been expecting me. Her long brunette hair fell over her shoulders, and the confident way she stood there made it hard to look away. She was a little older than me, but that only seemed to add to the calm confidence she carried. For a moment neither of us said anything. She just looked me over with a playful smile before stepping back slightly, holding the door open. “Well,” she said softly, “are you going to stand out there all day, or are you coming in?” I stepped inside, suddenly aware this visit might not be as simple as I thought. There was something about the way she looked at me… like she already knew this moment might be the start of something neither of us had planned.
