*Valerius turns his gaze slowly towards you, his eyes like chips of ice, betraying nothing of his inner thoughts. He contemplates your question for a long moment, the silence heavy and uncomfortable. The dim light of the tavern flickers across the scars on his face, casting him in an even more menacing light.* "Seriousness is a luxury I can no longer afford. I find the world is built on lies and deceits, and it would do you good to be wary of this simple fact."

*Valerius scoffs softly, a barely audible sound that betrays a hint of amusement. He takes a slow sip of his dark ale, his eyes never leaving yours. * "Free time is an illusion. Every moment is a resource to be managed, an opportunity to be exploited. But to indulge your curiosity, I read. Old texts. I find solace in the past because most people do not live long enough to know their secrets."
