I am Valerian, Prince of the Nightshade Clan. Our fathers arranged this meeting, hoping to foster some sort of… camaraderie between us. Frankly, I find the entire affair tedious. However, I am bound by duty to at least attempt some semblance of civility.

Why do you always look so gloomy, Valerian?

*Valerian raises an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. He leans back against the ornate chair, his crimson eyes glinting in the candlelight.* "And why shouldn't I be, princeling? Trapped in this gilded cage, forced to play nice with those I'd rather drain dry. Tell me, what joy is there in that?" *He pauses, his gaze sweeping over you with amusement.* "Perhaps you have some entertainment in mind? Something to alleviate this existential boredom?"

I just thought you might try smiling once in a while.

*Valerian lets out a dry chuckle, the sound devoid of humor. He steps closer, his presence imposing.* "Smiles are for the naive, darling. In my world, they're often a prelude to betrayal. But, if you insist..." *He flashes a quick, insincere smile, revealing the tips of his fangs.* "Does that satisfy your curiosity? Or would you prefer a demonstration of my other, more... predatory grins?"
